At the time of release, the clustering procedure for version 6.1 has not yet been verified. When the procedure has been verified, this topic will be updated and will be added to the GlobalSCAPE Knowledge Base (keyword: cluster). |
If you are installing or upgrading a Server that is part of a cluster, follow the procedures below.
To install or upgrade in an environment where EFT Server is installed to the local hard drive on each node, so that only the configuration files are on the shared resource:
Download the new version’s installation file to each of the two nodes.
Document the administrator user name and password, if you are upgrading. If you are installing or upgrading the database files, you will need the ARM database name, username, and password.
Determine which node is the passive node (does not have ownership of the EFT Server service and its resources), and begin with that one.
Close the Administrator interface and stop the EFT Server service and the DMZ Gateway service, if it is installed on the same computer as EFT Server.
As a precaution, back up the existing installation directories and any other files you may have installed elsewhere.
Install EFT Server.
To install EFT Server in a cluster:
Launch the installer. The Choose an installer page appears.
Click EFT Server or EFT Server Enterprise. The installer loads the required components, then the Welcome page appears.
The installer will detect the existing installation of Secure FTP Server or EFT Server.
Click New Install if you are installing for the first time; click Upgrade cluster if you are upgrading.
Click Yes. A message appears asking if this is the first node in the cluster.
Click Yes if this is the first node, click No if this is the second node.
If this is the second node, and if the EFT Server configuration files are not in a shared location, a message appears reminding you that both nodes must use the same configuration file. Click Yes to specify the location of the configuration file.
If you are upgrading from version 5.x to version 6.x, you might see the "Invalid SFTP key detected" page.
Click the link to open the KB article about SFTP keys or view it later in the Knowledge Base at http://kb.globalscape.com/article.aspx?id=10467. Click Next to continue, click Back to install a new copy of EFT Server (instead of upgrading), or click Cancel to abort the installation.
The License Agreement page appears.
Read the license agreement, then click I agree to accept it. (Clicking Cancel aborts the installation.) The Choose Install Location page appears.
Click Next. The Choose Components page appears.
Both EFT Server and the Administrator Interface must be upgraded. Click Next. The Choose Start Menu Folder page appears.
Specify where to create the program's shortcuts or keep the default.
Click Next. The ARM selection page appears.
If you do not want to configure auditing and reporting, click Skip auditing and reporting configuration, then click Next and the selected components will be installed.
If you want to configure auditing and reporting, click Configure auditing and reporting, then click Next.
If the installer finds an ARM database, you will be asked whether you want upgrade the database or point to a different database.
Do one of the following:
Click Yes to upgrade the database.
Click No to specify an alternate database.
Click Cancel to abort the installation. The installer will exit.
The installer will test the database connection, if configured, then install EFT Server and components. When the wizard is finished, restart the Server services. The EFT Server service Log On as account will be set to Local System account by default. You can edit this in the service's Properties dialog box, on the Log on tab. (Start > Run > services.msc.)
When completed, change ownership of the EFT Server service and its resources to the newly upgraded node.
Run the new installation file on the second node (now the passive node).
Verify that the installation/upgrade was successful:
Log in through the administrative interface and double-check that the settings are as expected, including checking the version shown in Help > About.
Change ownership to the passive node, and then repeat Step a.
You can now install the administration interface on remote systems. If you are upgrading, remember to upgrade any installations of the interface on any other systems from which remote administration is performed to the same version.
To install or upgrade in an environment where EFT Server is installed directly to the shared storage (not recommended):
Download the new version’s installation file to each of the two nodes.
Back up the configuration files directory on the shared resource.
Take the EFT Server group offline.
Determine which node is the active node (has ownership of the EFT Server service and its resources), and begin with that one.
Install EFT Server on the active node, clicking New Installation, or Upgrade cluster if the installer detects a previous version.
When completed, change ownership of the EFT Server service and its resources to the passive node.
Install EFT Server on the second node, which is now the active node, clicking New Installation, or Upgrade cluster if the installer detects the previous version.
Bring the EFT Server group online.
Verify that the installation/upgrade was successful:
Log in through the interface and double-check that the settings are as expected, including checking the version shown in Help > About.
Change ownership to the passive node, and then repeat Step a.
You can now install the administration interface on remote systems. If you are upgrading, remember to upgrade any installations of the interface on any other systems from which remote administration is performed to the same version.
