Installing Additional or Backup Agents

On Windows 2008 and Vista operating systems, the Agent runs only as an application and should be installed and run using the "Administrator" account. If you need to run WAFS on a different account you must disable UAC. Whichever account you plan to use to run WAFS, should also be used to install WAFS.

After you have installed the Server and the first or master Agent, install Agents on any other computer on which you want to set up a WAFS mirror or CDP backup.

To install additional or backup Agents

  1. On the computer on which you are installing the Agent, create an empty folder. This folder will be populated with the contents of the first or master Agent's target folder.

  2. Start the installation package and follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

  3. Do one of the following:

If you are installing the Agent on Windows Server 2008 or Vista, a prompt appears asking if you want the Agent to start automatically when a user logs in to the computer. You should only enable the autostart feature if you are either using the Administrator account to install and run WAFS or if UAC is disabled.

The Agent installs, then the Select a folder dialog box appears.

  4. Click Browse to specify the empty folder you created in step 1, then click Next. The Link to an existing Job page appears.

  5. Specify the IP address or name of the Server. If the port number is not 80 (the default), provide the server name followed with the port number in the format Servername:port. For example, type:

    AVSRD:711

  6. Click Next. The Job Summary page appears.

  7. Click Link to Job. The Agent links with the Server and all of the files related to the Job are replicated in the folder you selected in step 4.

  8. Repeat the above steps on any other computer that you want to add to the system as a mirror or backup.
